Newgrounds how to scout and be scouted as an artist.
Newgrounds is very artist centric and with all the new artists it is crucial that your work must be scouted to promote external growth within the website.
Scouting requirements for the artist:
You must have 4 original works by you. Not pictures you purchased BY YOU.
You must be “scouted” by another user in the website. This will send you a PM from m-bot. This is your invitation. Accept it. Done.
Scouting an artist:
On the top left part of the page a box will show “This artist hasn’t been scouted yet.” A link will be there to recc op mend the artist to the portal. Click it. Done. Don’t forget to rate the image and PLEASE rate the image based on a critical opinion. NG is not a place to kiss ass as it’s community is much more critique focused.
The benefits of being scouted:
Your works may be featured on the art portal.
Your works are searchable and visible beyond your profile.
NG recognizes original artists an handles art theft sternly.
NG allows all kinds of content. Just be familiar with their upload policy.
NG is a place where creators get recognized and further their careers.
Disadvantages:
NG has some clique trolling groups. These groups have been around for as long as NG has been active. Familiarize yourself with the blocking function. You’ll need it.
NG’s user base can be toxic at times. Some accounts exist just to balatantly flag everything for deletion. Prepare to reupload some works if you don’t have an audience there. Otherwise if you have 5 or more fans rating content regularly you’ll be okay. Just make sure to maintain a score above 1.
Newgrounds is inherently not a furry friendly website. Expect the typical bad taste review. You can optionally hide reviews that are toxic. But not all negative reviews are bad. Read closely and see of someone is either throwing mud or having a legitimate criticism. You can be removed from the art portal of you are known to take criticism negatively and react with hostility. Professionalism is key.
Now that you have this information go. Go and do great things.
